Local Attractions

The principal attraction of the Esperance region is its extraordinary beauty:  beautiful landscapes, beautiful beaches, beautiful island coastline, beautiful wildflowers.  There’s never a shortage of things to do and see at any time of year.

Walking: In the town there’s an easy walk-trail that follows the beach line – or walk on the beach itself. From Beachfront Cottage, this trail leads either to Bandy Creek Harbour, or into the town via the town jetty.

A little further afield there’s a spectacular walk trail at West Beach, above fantastic bays and beaches. In the other direction, there’s an interesting trail beside Windabout Lake – complete with wild flowers in the spring.

More adventurous walking is available in the Cape Le Grande National Park, with beautiful natural trails, ranging from ‘easy’ to ‘very hard” walking around the coast and through the bush. The walk up Frenchman’s Peak is rewarded by spectacular 360 degree views.

Swimming: Esperance beaches are famed for their white sand and crystal clear blue water.  Take your choice of the beaches in town or West of town.  And again, there are the beaches in nearby Cape Le Grande National Park with superfine white sand and (mostly) gentle surf.

Fishing: From the jetty, beaches or rocky headlands you may be rewarded with catches of herring, skipjack, queen snapper or salmon.  Fishing is always an excellent excuse to spend time in a beautiful place.

Wildflowers:  From June to September, there are wildflowers in abundance, although there are flowers to be seen at any time of year.  There are native orchids, banksias, red kangaroo paws, red leschnaultia, and many other species to enjoy.
